📓God has a recipe for your life, your basketball career and every other thing that matters in your life. (Jer 29:11)
As we prepare to level up, we need to know what are one of a kind gifts and talents are, because that’s what will allow us to fulfill our role in God’s kingdom.
🌱 Proverbs 20:4 tells us, “A farmer too lazy to plant in the spring has nothing to harvest in the fall.” Simply put for us hoopers, if you are too lazy to put in focused and urgent work from May - September, don’t you dare expect your one shining moment in March!
📢Proverbs 17:17 states that real friends “love through all kinds of weather.” Instead of giving our energy to those that won’t hold us down no matter what, let’s instead, thank God for the true friends in our life that we can count on no matter what.
🔋We must encourage one another to keep that same (Christ-like) energy when we get messed over, backstabbed and taken advantage of.
🚧Today’s climate of competitive athletics can bring out the worst in some. As a result, it can create toxic and dark environments.
🔦A flashlight has little use in sunshine; however, it has great purpose in the darkest of environments.
💪🏾 You, like a flashlight, can be small, yet when God calls you to be used in the dark, you become powerful and purposeful.
🔗As long as you stay linked with God and the godly people He’s placed in your life God will continue to work through you and allow those in your environment to feel how loving and empowering God’s light truly is.
❗️I know it’s tough to do the right thing to those who may mistreat you, but know it’s not your light, but God’s and His light will overcome all darkness.
🕯️Keep shining, God’s using you, and never forget what Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.”
📖 John 3:20-21 MSG “Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.”
If you are in a toxic environment realize that you are God’s flashlight, and He has a purpose for your light and the darker the environment, the more powerful your light becomes.
✈️ You, no different than an airplane cannot take-off without pressure.
I can’t help but feel convicted wondering how many times in life God, who controls my life refuses to swing blessings my way because I’m not prepared beforehand to receive the blessing.
Every day that God breaths life into our bodies, he does so in order for us to fulfill His purposes through us, which means we have work to do, TODAY!
⚠️So many times in sports and in life, we fail to properly handle our mistakes. We either; fail to keep it real with ourselves, and God and address our flawed decisions, which leads to repetitive faulty behavior. Or, we learn from our mistakes but hold on to them, which prohibits us from reaching our potential.
👉🏾Realize you have championship potential, and set championship standards.
👉🏾Understand being a champion is not going to happen on the first try, it’s a focused process.
👉🏾Every time you fall short of being a champion, don’t get discouraged, get determined, and just figure out what ingredients need to be added to take a step towards being a champion.
Without learning how to think you will never reach what you desire to become. Thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become character and character becomes your destiny.
🙏🏽Take some time to evaluate your spiritual diet and ensure it’s lean. Ask God to lead you to identify the (spiritual) fat in your life that needs to be eliminated from your diet.
Allow your Strength Coach(God) to do the heavy lifting, and stay humble with the success that it produces because there’s no way you could lift the heavy burdens, that only God can handle, independent of Him.
Keep in mind: that egos trip, but the humble don’t stumble.
🔑Please take it from me! There’s a big difference in for and from as it relates to your pursuit of happiness.
⛹🏽♂️I’ve had a love and passion for basketball since before I can remember, along with a talent and a high IQ and feel.
🤮Despite all of that my college career was trash, along with other areas of my life as well.
🤔Why? because I was a for person and not a from person.
‼️Through God, we can live life from love, acceptance, swag, approval, confidence, and victory and not for it.
🥊I played and even lived convinced I had to fight for love, for approval, acknowledgment, and acceptance.
⚠️ I did not know God well enough to know the things that I had been fighting so hard for, through Him, I had all along.
📖Swag - Mark 10:27 Everything is possible with God.
📖Approval - Romans 4:4-5 when people don’t work but believe God, the one who approves ungodly people, their faith is regarded as the basis of God’s approval.
📖Love - John 3:16This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
📖Acceptance - 1 Peter 2:9 that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
📖Winning - 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
📖Confidence - John 15:16 I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil.
📖Zephaniah 3:17 Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you.
🏆As for me, don’t feel sorry for me. I’m no sad story (AND NEITHER ARE YOU), my pastor says “we ought not place a period where God places a comma.” Meaning that my story was not over during that dark time in my life, it was just beginning. Unlike a period which signals finality, a comma means there’s more to come, and now that I live from swag, approval, love, acceptance, victory, and confidence, instead of for it I am able to receive the life and happiness God had for me all along, just like you will be able to!
God created you to follow your (God placed) dreams. They are bigger than you if you don’t follow through on them and quit you are not just quitting on yourself, but all those that will be positively impacted if you trust God and pursue your dreams.
🙌🏾 God touches our soul with His big dreams.
- Gen 28:12-(MSG)
Jacob dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground and it reached all the way to the sky; angels of God were going up and going down on it.
❗️He then reminds of His track record as it relates to placing big dreams in His children.
- Gen 28:13- 15(MSG) Then God was right before him, saying, “I am God, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac.”
👓Next, He will give you a specific vision of what your dream is
- Gen 28:13-15 (MSG) I’m giving the ground on which you are sleeping to you and to your descendants.
🗺️Then, He will clarify how your big dream is so much bigger than you and show you how, and who it will impact.
- Gen 28:13- 15(MSG) Your descendants will be as the dust of the Earth; they’ll stretch from west to east and from north to south. All the families of the Earth will bless themselves in you and your descendants.
🃏He will then guarantee that when you follow Him towards your big dream, you, but more importantly others will be blessed.
- Gen 28:13-15(MSG) All the families of the Earth will bless themselves in you and your descendants.
😨Lastly, He knows that this dream that we are responsible for following is probably scaring the crap out of us so He will assure us that He will not hang us out to dry, at the end of the day it’s His dream in us, and He will see it through!
- Gen 28:13 -15-(MSG) Yes. I’ll stay with you, I’ll protect you wherever you go, and I’ll bring you back to this very ground. I’ll stick with you until I’ve done everything I promised you.”
👊🏾Keep going, Keep dreaming, Keep believing!

🎵“I’ve been down so long, it look like up to me - They look up to me. I got fake people showin’ fake love to me, straight up to my face, straight up to my face.”
🗣I feel you Drake!
🌊In the world we live in today, both athletically and otherwise, it seems fake love is the new wave.
🚫🌊God’s word assures us that we ought not be on the fake love wave. He expects we give our teammates, in life and in sport REAL LOVE!
‼️ In 1 John 3:18, He says don’t:
👀Shout your teammate out on IG when they go for 30, yet go ghost when they get benched. That’s that fake love!
👀Coach, don’t invest in a relationship with player-A, because he’s an all-conference player, yet go weeks without speaking to player-B because he’s not producing on the court. That’s that (conditional) fake love!
👀Don’t tweet out your teammate is the bro or sis, or that the player you coach is like a son or daughter, yet the second their eligibility is exhausted your energy changes up. That’s that fake love!
📖1 John 3:18 (NLT) Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
💭Power thought: If your love ain’t real don’t bring it this way, because I’m allergic to fake love, so I must avoid it all cost. I assume you have the same condition, so out of respect for your (spiritual, mental and emotional) health, I will either, give you real love, or no love at all.
😁A friend of mine texted me and said, “I’m so happy for you.”
😖I confusingly asked, “what they meant?” He responded, he saw my IG story, and that I was “on the beach out in Cali so I must be living my best life and everything must be good.”
😟“Nah,” I replied. “I’m actually extremely frustrated, discouraged, and as of late I have doubted if God’s plan for me involves happiness, success, and peace of mind.”
🤼♂️We all wrestle with doubt, discouragement, and frustration en route to our destiny.
🤡However, we all have been conditioned to put our exterior mask of happiness, confidence and security on and hide our inner feelings of pain, hurt, doubt and insecurity.
🚨In fact, I’d venture to say there’s someone in your; locker room, office, classroom, household or social media timeline that needs you to look past their picture-perfect smile and sense their interior pain and encourage them.
🗣Once you do remind them of how gifted they are, how resilient they are, and most importantly, that God ain't bring them this far just to get this far. In fact, God assures us that, “He will not fail us or abandon us.” - Joshua 1:5 (NLT)
🗣Also, remind them that as they continue to pursue their God-given dreams that “He is with them, and will protect them wherever they go. He will not leave them until He has finished giving them everything He promised them.” - Genesis 28:15 (NLT)
